On the Job: Jill Bodensteiner

It’s Women’s History Month! All month! What better opportunity is there for me to highlight some of the incredible and influential women I have worked with over the years (and there have been many). One of these phenomenal women is Jill Bodensteiner. 

Jill Bodensteiner has been the Vice President and Director of Athletics at Saint Joseph’s University since 2018. Not only does she lead the Hawks’ 20 NCAA Division I men’s and women’s varsity sports, and the University’s Campus Recreation Department, but she also helped to create SJU’s Beyond the Hill initiative to develop student-athletes in the areas of academics, leadership, diversity and inclusion, spirituality and service, and career. 

In her spare time (ha!), she also served as an expert witness at the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary's hearing on Name, Image and Likeness and the Future of College Sports in October 2023. Bodensteiner, a former labor and employment lawyer, also served on numerous committees and working groups related to student-athlete employee status and gender equity among student-athletes.

When Jill first began her career at Saint Joseph’s University, they reached out to capture some professional images to announce her arrival. SJU knows the importance of executive portraits, and is great about capturing new executives joining the university or refreshing existing headshots.

Keeping your executive portraits current can be a hassle, whether it’s an C-suite’s busy schedule or a personal reluctance to get in front of a camera, but having up-to-date executive headshots on file is crucial. You might remember when I said, “It's imperative for any C-Suite or Cabinet level employee to have fresh, vibrant executive portraits to accurately portray to the world exactly who you are.” I still mean it. And that's exactly what happened when Jill called at the beginning of the year to refresh her headshots. 

During her work, Jill Bodensteiner has helped oversee SJU’s facilities upgrades to the basketball locker rooms, practice courts and offices; athletic fields, and a new energy efficient LED lighting system. We capitalized on Jill’s amazing achievements and tied them in with her new headshots. Having Jill pose in the athletic facilities not only put her in her element, but also showed off her accomplishments and achievements within the University.
